The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's mission is to provide a safe, efficient, environmentally sound and fiscally responsible transportation system that delivers economic opportunity and enhances the quality of life in Kentucky.

The 2026 Kentucky Safety Summit will unite professionals from engineering, education, emergency services, enforcement, and employee safety to exchange best practices, research, and innovative solutions. It will offer insights on successful programs and emerging issues aimed at reducing fatalities and injuries on Kentucky’s roadways, enhancing safety awareness, and fostering networking and collaboration. The Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Lexington, May 20-22, 2026. 

Registration includes attendance to General and Breakout Sessions, Meals (included in agenda), and entrance the evening reception.

At this year’s Safety Summit, two 4-hour preconference sessions, “Below 100” and “Traffic Incident Management (TIM)”, will be offered. If you would like to attend one of these sessions, please select the appropriate option below. Preregistration is required. Both sessions will be held on Wednesday, May 20, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EST, prior to the Opening General Session at 1:00 p.m. 

TIM: Kentucky's Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training program addresses the challenges of moving people and goods efficiently and safely on the nation's highways. The Program focuses on response efforts that protect motorists and responders while minimizing the impact on traffic flow.  

Below 100: The idea of Below 100 began at that table and continues today.  Having evolved into the Below 100 Program, the initiative aims to reduce the line of duty deaths to below 100 in a year – a number not the seen since 1897. We can do this.  We’ve done it before.  In 1974, the all-time high year for officer deaths, 278 were killed in the line of duty.  Innovations in training, emergency medicine and vehicles, as well as the development of ballistic armor, all contributed to bring this number down.  We’ve averaged about 150 officers killed per year in the last ten years.  Together, we can bring that number to below 100.
